The benefits of eating more fish but remembering sustainability.

I’m on a bit of mission with fish at the moment from a sustainability prospective & because I want to try as many varieties of fish as humanly possible. And you may have noticed I’ve made 3 post about mackerel now. There is a reason for this … keep reading.

Why you ask ? .. fish is incredible. Fish doesn’t have to be fancy or a long winded drawn out task. Working with whole and doing the work yourself gives you a sense of pride with the finished product / dish.

Benifits of eating more fish.

Eating fish is important to help towards a healthier / nutritionally balanced diet. Eating fish twice a week can seriously boost your health & general well being you

The important of nutrition and a balanced diet is vital for all your bodies systems to function properly. By having healthier nutrition it will help main healthy body weight, reduce body fat, provide your body with energy promote good sleep and generally make you feel better.

Thats where fish comes in …

Mackerel – sustainable

Mackerel is a great fish & it’s cheap as chips most supermarkets around the U.K sell these for 47p – 88p. Meaning you can create some fabulous dish on a budget.

Oily fish like mackerel are said to help against cardiovascular disease and prostate cancer, age related vision loss & dementia.

Mackerel is a good source of vitamin d protein, some b vitamins and selenium. It’s also rich is omega 3 fatty acids. That’s the good one …

Mussels – sustainable

Mussels offer health benifits due to their selenium content. Selenium is an essential mineral that helps support protein function.

We should eat more mussels as they increases out vitamin A Intake nourishes your eyes, skin and immune system, also helps Crete red blood cells

One cup of mussels contain 240 units of vitamin A providing 10% of your recommended daily intake for women & 8% for men.

Mussels are quick and easy to cook. Just steam them with some white wine, butter and cream for a really rich flavouful dish ready in less than 5 minutes

Gilt head bream – sustainable

Another sustainable fish because it’s farmed all year round great baked whole on a bed of lemon and lime.

Tilapia – sustainable

Another great fish that has load of health benifits. Tilapia boost brain health and immune system. Strethens our bones supports muscle growth and repairs cells. As well as being good of our skin, being packed full of omega 3 fatty acids. This really is a brilliant fish.

All these fish are great pan fried, baked, or bar grilled.

So Remember when buying fish always stay sustainable to help our oceans and fish populations improve and increase. Always ask when buying fishing how it was caught. Was it caught in a sustainable way ? If they can’t tell you. Don’t buy it.
